Just Found A Dead Oto

Just bought 4 otos on Saturday, and they seemed to be getting along fine. I just found a dead one, and I can only find one of the three survivors. Plus, we bought a synodontis that's too small to keep with the JDs in my husband's tank so I put him in my 55g. Can't find him either. I know they hide well, but sheesh!

I'd like to find the 3 otos and put them in my 29g where there's more algae. Do you think this will do more harm than good?

Sorry for your loss, these little catfish are so fragile during their first few weeks of bringing home, well worth quarantining to ensure they have every opportunity to eat some quality food and gain some strength for the first time since they were captured.

What syno species have you bought?

I believe it was s. Nigriventris but I only saw it the first day and a half it was here and of course it wasn't labeled at the LFS. I've just done The Search all around the tank, inside and out, but no sign.

I had 5 ottos for abput 2 months and all but 1 have died in the last week, what the hell? i guess there was not enough algae for them to eat

I know they starve easily unless their diets are supplemented, but I know that's not the problem here, unless they were near starving before I got them. There's still one very active one, but I'm at a loss about where the other 2 went. Not to mention the mysterious synodontis cat.

Sorry for your loss. Otto's are quite fragile & I have heard this sort of thing before. They just die for no aparant reason.
