I started a topic about a woman that i did a bedroom for, who had a realy over stocked tank, she had in the regen of £15000+ worth of cloths. :S :S :S :S

It got me thinking, how much do actually spend in a year on fish???????? :D

I've spent around £900 to £1000 for me i've just got some new discus
(includes every thing, food, addatives, hardware, fih u name it every thing u can think off)

How much do u spend??????????????? :D :D :D :D

EDIT~I've to prove to my wife its not just me lol :D

Too much!! I spend a average of £10 a week just keeping the fish and then spend around £1000 a year on new fish, then there are all the emergency purchases like replacement equipment and medications which probably total another couple of hundred.

This is a really scary thought for me right now as within one year I have gone from a 55 gallon african cichlid setup to saltwater (fish only with live rock) and now back to freshwater soon to be community tropical.

I've just started really so not a great comparison, but so far I have spent...

New tank with gravel + plants £150

Syphon and thermometer £5

5 zebr danios ( at 80p each) £4

5 Cardinal tetras £5

2 rams £7

Horsefaced loach £1.25

Other stuff (net dechlorinator, food etc) £10

so.... £182.25 (roughly) so far.

Pretty cheap huh? :D

Fish per month : Approx $20
Filter media per month : 3 AC300 sponges, 2 fluval 204 sponges, 1 AC200 sponge = total cost $35
Fish Food : $20 lasts approx 2 months so $10 pm (this feeds all my fish)
Sugar to run my DIY CO2 : unsure
Yeast to run my DOY CO2 : unsure

I am sure theres more but thats what immediately comes to mind

NO WAY do i spend the same amount as CFC or red-devil0602. Maybe $200 Aus dollars.

i think about 1000 quid but if my boyfriend ask it's about 400 ha ha ha :D
lol I know the feeling.

I don't wanna total my sum up because I don't want to scare myself.

I got really good deals on used tanks and other hardware over the years so I have not spent very much.

Inless I am setting up a new tank I hardley spend anything on my fish. About 1-2 times a year I have to restock up on my food. I purchase half pound bags of flake food, so I never have to by more of that, I by large packs of frozen brine srhimp, and then various other dried foods for them. I also feed my fish a lot of vegitbles, but I eat these myself and do not include them in the cost of their food.

Forgot about filter media, but even then I by that in bulk. I rarely have to by fish as mine seem to live for years.

I spend aprox $100 a year I would guess, maybe $200 if I pick up a few fish.

EDIT: I keep mostly barbs and live bearers in various tanks. Also I am talking Canadian $$$.

In total i am proabably approaching SILLY figures, and ive only been keeping fish seriously for 2 years now! I think I have probably spent in the region of £4000 total.

This year I have spent at least £500... I bought a new filter, some expensive fish and some other random things just since starting new job on March 21st. So since then thats around £200-£220.... Before March I have at least spent another £250...

So yes, far too much, but its worth it i guess...

If i could go back and start all of it again, i would get a 6x2x2ft tank and do everything properly, but hey, you gotta learn somewhere, and thats nearly always starting small.

Ben
