Do paradise gouramis get their stripes as the get older, or should they have them when they're born? I ask bc I was looking at the tanks at PetSmart today while I got some bloodworms and noticed the paradise fish most all looked this powdery blue color. Only a few had any red stripes to speak of, and even they didn't have much. I asked if they were a color morph and she said that they are just still young and will color up as the get older. Is that true?
Just curious, as I've always liked the look of these fish and would one day like to own one...

Maybe in a 10g...

with a few cories...

MTS is such a wretched thing!

You seem concerned, so I'll be honest, I read it but I don't know anything about paradise fish so I couldn't help you sorry! I get a bit frustrated too sometimes when I post something and no one replies - but yeah its probably that no one has any information to contribute! Try searching this forum or go broader, other forums or just google.

I saw and heard the same thing as you did, and as far as I could verify, it is true. There were some young paradise fish in my lfs, and they were there for over a month, and I did see them (slightly) colouring up during that time. These paradise fish were about 2.5 cm long, so still young. It was possible though, to distinguish where the stripes were going to be if you looked carefully.

Sylvia and others gave me some good advice on keeping this fish. You can read it in this link
