I have n't had a new fish for this tank in a while. This is the one where I kept having a few-here and there-die of swim bladder disorder. I used Aquarium Pharm. Advanced Algae Control (LFS) for a few weeks and it seems to have gotten rid of it. (There's only a tiny bit around the little pot with a plant in it. (Could the plant be causing it?)

Last night, I scrubbed and washed everything in the tank as I did a 60% water change. Looks clear to me. Just a little nervous about adding some of these beautiful silver and black mollies I saw at the lfs. By the way, how many mollies should I have together--schooling? Is 2 or 3 or 4 enough (10g tank with catfish)?

Any suggestions or feedback would be appreciated!

Love to all, Wendy :fish: :fish:

Are you dosing for your plants? Excess iron is thought be one of the reasons for thread algae. Using iron tablets in the substrate rather than dosing iron sometimes helps as the algae will take in nutrients from the water column.

If you are having fish die from swim bladder infection, there is likely something wrong with the water conditions you are keeping, but there's not a way to tell without more information. What is in your 10-gallon tank? How often do you do water changes? How many times a day are you feeding?

When you've sorted things out to make sure it's in great working order for fish, Mollies and other livebearers do not school. Although they will swim near others of their kind, they do not truly school like Tetras, Rasboras, or Corydoras. How many catfish and what type do you have in your ten gallon?
