hi last week i posted pics of my new 1.5" baby oscar. I'm happy to report that he seems happy and healthy. i've been feeding the fish in the tank twice a day, he's in a tank with 3 jd's and a rtbs (who will be moved soon) . i've tried chiclid flakes and mini pellets and he won't touch them but he loves regular old tropical fish flakes, is this ok for now until he gets bigger or will the tropical fish flakes make him sick, not get right nuitreints etc???

here's my little angel, i called him Sabastian

it's not the best pic he's kinda camera shy, this is his first baby pic!!!!

can someone just let me know what their oscars eat so i can try all types of tings to keep him happy and also to make sure it's ok for him to be eating tropical fish flakes instead of chiclid food.

thanks

I feed my oscar a variety of things - Mysis shrimp, krill, bloodworm, brineshrimp, muscle, cockle, mealworms, crickets, peas and pellets. He loves them all!

As for yours only eating regular tropical flake, it is more than likely due to the fact thats all he would have been given at the LFS. Oscars can be picky eaters, especially when introduced to a new environment. Give him time and he will eat anything you throw at him. Try some live or frozen foods if you can get some as flake all the time isnt good really.

Good luck

Wow

Sabastian is Very Pretty I took me a few minutes to see him in pic but He looks great good luck....I love Oscars too
However I have all Angel Fish
:D

He's so cute, and I love the name! Hang on to that pic... you'll have fun looking at it in a few months when he's the size of a dinner plate ;)
Flake will be fine as a staple food until he gets bigger, but if you really want him to grow like a weed, go for frozen bloodworms! My oscar LOVED them as a baby, even though he turned down frozen brine shrimp. Once he got big enough to eat 3 cubes in one sitting I had to stop giving them to him, haha.
As soon as he was big enough I moved him up from flake to Hikari gold cichlid pellets. So far those have been his all-time fave prepared food; he gets much more excited about those than about any of the other pellets and things I've tried.

My Oscar ate the hikari cichlid pellets when he was little. Now he wont touch it, tho he loves cichlid sticks from Tetra, chews them and lets half of the food fall out his gills making a huge orange mess of the tank. :)

He also loves cooked chicken, snags a earth worm every once in a while, freeze dried plankton, and fresh shrimp. He does not seem to like any frozen foods.
