Ok, hello to all you people out there. I am very new to this fish thing. I will have you know that I have been wanting fish forever, but just now got the money to buy my tank and fish and accessories. I am hoping to have a joyful experience, and make this my newest and most interesting hobby. I am still new to this forum thing, so I haven't quite figured out how to do everything...for instance...signatures...haven't figured that out yet.

My starter tank stats:

29 US gallons
2 guppies (1 male/ 1 female)
2 platties (1 male/ 1 female)
1 black striped tetra
1 all white tetra
1 black ghost knife (my favorite....gender unknown...let's assume it's a 'him')
1 aquatic frog (also gender unknown....but i call 'him' antonio)

...and soon to be 2 or 3 corys to clean up my bottom...

Any hints or suggestions for a newbie would be appreciated...although I already have figured out the water changing thing.....right now i'm doing a 30% every other day until probably next month...then i'll move to once a week. I have already made my first mistake....not cycling the tank completely before adding fish (you can read my other post in the beginner section to find out exactly what happens when you do that....not a recommended thing to do)

I hope to be a long time fishaholic, and I hope to one day be one of the residing experts that posts in here...but we all have to start somewhere, don't we? So far, much thanks go out to lucky62, bettaman, and everyone else who held my hand through my first catastrophe (i can't remember all the names off the top of my head).

Anyways....my message is ALREADY long enough, so I guess I'll get going. Talk to you all later, and I look forward to reading all your replies!! Hope to meet you!

Hi swammy :)

Welcome to the forum! :hi:

All of us make mistakes along the way, but it sounds like you have things under control now, and that's what's really important.

I'll be looking forward to reading your posts. :D

"...and soon to be 2 or 3 corys to clean up my bottom..."
Ha Ha......very good m8.
Welcome and good luck with your new hobby
I only started myself a while ago,and find the help in this forum excellent.
(still laughing and trying to picture those 2 or 3 corys)

Am I wrong in wanting 2 or 3 corys?? I heard those are the better ones for a community tank like mine. Should I get more? should I get less? I really don't know....and I don't want to make too many mistakes. Well....just curious.

Oh......i just caught ur signature, babyfish.....ROFLMAOOOOOOO at your wife beater angelfish!!!!

The more corys you get,the better. :) The larger the group the more active and happy they seem to be. They are social fish and prefer to be in a group of at least 5 or 6. I have 2 in my ten gallon and they're allright, but I don't have room for more and I wish I did! I have a group of 8 in the 20 gallon and they are like watching a group of kids playing. So no,you're not wrong, you just need to want more! (if your tank can handle it ;) )

BTW Welcome to TFF! :)

Ccorys will be good in your tank, and they're so sweet!! I think george&ade meant 'cories cleaning up your BOTTOM'!! (y'know, your rear-end, posterior, backside, arse, bum  ) ;)

Also, :hi:
