:D hello everyone

i just put some bio-spira in my 29 gal tank while its in the process of cycling. i put it in about three days ago and their is still no big change it the cycling process. my levels of readings are still the same as they were before i put it in. it said that my levels should spike rapidly an then drop rapidly and stay at a level of 0 amm, 0 nitrite, and low levels of nitrate with in just a few days ,but its been 4 days now and nothing has changed.... do you think that i should have not put the bio-spira in while it was cycling??Or should i just keep waiting and not do anything else???????
your imput is greatly needed..............the petkeeper2 :dunno:

I am assuming you are doing fishless cycle.

You must still add the ammonia to kick start bio spira.

Bio spira is the bacteria itself, but with nothing to feed on.........

If you are doing a fishless cycle you need to add PURE ammonia to your tank to kick start the bio-spira. Do NOT add ammonia if you have fish in the tank. I added bio-spira to my 125 gal fresh water tank while it was cycling (day 5). Within 2hrs I was getting a nitrite reading, prior to adding the bio-spira my nitrite was 0. I checked my readings the following day and my ammonia is 4ppm and nitrite .25. I will decrease the amount of ammonia that I added to my tank as my nitrite continue to rise. You can find very good articles on fishless cycling by doing a google search for "fishless cycling".

:) hello guys and gals.........thanx 4 responding to me

i 'm not doing a fishless cycle their are fish in my tank. my tank has been up and running for about four weeks now.but i decided to add the bio-spira to it to boost it up a little.Nothing has changed in the tank readings are the same as before maybe i have to wait awhile longer to see what happens .my readings may change in a couple of days i will test my water then and see.i will get back to you in a few days and let you know whats going on ok '''' later for now """""petkeeper2 :D

I started my fishless cycle 8 days ago and today the ammonia level dropped from 4ppm to 2+ppm and the nitrites have gone up to 1+ppm, so it takes sometime to get a reaction, longer than I thought it would.

What size tank do you have and how many fish. If your tank is large with few fish it will take some time before you start to see any readings.

Bio spira can be bought at any lfs. Petkeeper if there isnt anything in your tank who gonna crap so the bacteria can eat?

Not always true. I called 7 pet stores within 1.5 hours of me and none of them carry bio spira. None would be willing to order it either. Most acted like they had never even heard of it.

also he did say there ARE fish in his tank:

i 'm not doing a fishless cycle their are fish in my tank.

:) hello everyone,

:D good news my 29 gal tank has finally cycled it took another five days to do its thing but its done now :kana: my amm is o:ppm and nitrites are o:ppm and nitrates are 20:ppm . i'm so glad that its done because i was about to give up on that dam tank , but i hung in there and did it :flex: and about the bio-spira i went to a website to order it. i went to( www.fishstoretn.com) and orderd it from them.i got it in 3 days pack in a box with a cold pack in it . Go and check them out they have a nice website tell them marc from NJ told you about it. ... Well now i'm going to start a 55 gal cichild tank as soon as i get some more bio-spira to do its thing for me.so thanks for your replys and i will let you know how i'm doing with my 55 gal ok """"" talk with you later " petkeeper2

Marc, I got bio spira from a LFS in hamilton Nj, not sure where your from (what Turnpike exit LOL) Anyway, the key to Bio Spira is to add a lot of fish with the Bio Spira. A few cycling fish won't produce enough amm.

That's where I bought my bio spira and it didn't work for me. I put it in with 5 fish (only a 10gallon tank) and got an ammonia spike on day 3 just as if I was cycling with fish. I quickly put in some gravel from my big tank (I had already seeded the filter but I guess it wasn't enough) and only had to do water changes for about a week and lost no fish. I wasn't impressed with the bio spira but maybe I got a bad bag.
