Possibly going to pick up a second hand tank tonight, which used to be used as a marine set up. Everything has been removed and cleaned up pretty well. I wil be using it as a tropical set up and was just wondering if I might encounter any problems because it used to be marine? Will wash it out again anyway, but is there anything I should be aware of? Or am I just be paranoid?

Just wash it out well and let it dry outside so if there is any salt left in it, it will stay in the tank (saltwater evaporates and just leaves salt, so my chemistry teacher says). Wash out a few times more if you're still paranoid. You'll be fine. :)

Just picked it up! It's HUGE!!!!!!!!!!! :hyper: Will post pics later. Bit of a drama trying to pick it up, and my boyfriend managed to cut his finger open on it!!! Good job I have tomorrow off to clean this monster!

Worth checking if the previous owner used any copper medications. The copper can stay in the silicone sealant and leech into your tank :(

If you're feeling paranoid, you could try washing it out with a big dose of dechlorinator...
Though DevUK has a good point. Beware of residual copper in the sealant.

Wrong way round- that only really matters if you're going from a FW tank to marine. Why in the world would a marine tank contain copper which kills all inverts when it relies on them to keep it 'working'?
