20 gal tank male betta 4 white clouds the tank is split because im afraid to put he male with the white clouds .. Also have one female betta in the the white clouds and they seem to be just fine. I was wondering what drives a male to create a bubblenest because i have had bettas before and within 2 days they had huge bubblenests but this one doesnt and he has stimulii to do so: like tthe female he can see thru the divider..im planning on breeding them( i was successful 3 times but im still trying to rear fry). Plz help and is there anything i can do that makes him make a bubblenest..p.s im not rushing it im just curious

Well conditioning helps alot seperate so the bettas are on there own and cant see any other fish not even each other then feed a good diet of natural meaty foods (bloodworm works best for me :) )

With the minnows mine are fine but depends on urs personality is he agressive if not u cld try putting the minnows with him ( not a good idea to put them both in when hes gaurding eggs) the only prob with ur stocking i c is the female bett that will try to kill ur male and ur male will try to kill her

It would be great if they could live together tho :)

Hope i helped :)

Actually i hve the female with the white clouds so the bettas dont kill each other..maybe i will try and see if the male will like the white clouds. Ill put one on his side and see wat happens..my female white cloud is really plump and the other 3 i think r males and shes kinda the aggressive type shes trying to mate but the males rnt doig anythig.shes flashing her fins at them but nuthing -_-

U did help:D i just need to get them some freeze dried food cause they r eating flakes and betta pebbles

oh yeh i ment not putting the bettas together unless they have expressed breeding behaviour lol i wouldnt put on minnow in with ur male as this will cause alot of stress on that minnow, he will proberly be ok with them :) yeh they like freeze fried but frozen or live is betta when trying to breed them alot more nutrients are in them

in freeze dried nutrients are lost due to the prosses of drying them :)

I cant get live foods because my town doesnt sell them..the closest place is a half an hour away and we barely go there..but last time i bred bettas they were conditioned with freeze dried bloodworms .. I actually just got back from going to get anoter female betta..i picked one out but i will be getting it tommorrow.this one is plump and has its fins perfect:) the one i have now is slow and fins torn because of its previous home but its doing better now:D all i want is my male to make a nest :( itll show me that hes happy and healthy i checked everything water ph everything is fine. I actually put the male betta with the white clouds and theydid fine he ignored them and vice versa so i will be putting the females together and the w.c with the male betta and ill probably get some neon tetras too:)

Thats brillient news :) sorry about ur first female hope she get to full fitness soon :) if youve use freeze dried before go ahead and do it again if it works for you :)

Also not all males will make a bubble nest before they meet a female some make it after as ive read most female will ignore these males :( but my bettas happy n healthy etc an he hasnt made a bibble nest either none of mine have tbh it depends on the fish

My old betta (passed on) made nests when the wter was still with no filter but thats only because he had no filter :)

Anyway anything else youd like to know?

The number 1 nest-building stimulus for the male Betta isn't so much food but barometric pressure changes. Same for Corydoras. In their natural state, Betta's live in small, still water pools and puddles. In the wet season, the air becomes humid, the storm clouds build and the Betta's are prompted to build a bubble nest in the expectation that, in the flood of water through the area, a female Betta will be washed into his domain for him to breed with. If your Betta isn't exposed to this natural barometric change due to airconditioning or heating or the surface is constantly disturbed, he isn't likely to build a nest.

Well the filter is on the white clouds side i didnt want the filter to disturp his nest if he made one..thx liquid skills:D im really excited to go pick up my female betta today:) shes pretty plump and this one isnt. And shes prettyy:) the male will definetly like her. Oh another thing he seems more interested in the white clouds then the female betta because thru the diveder he flares at the white clouds and he ignores the female so im guessing he isnt interested.. Oh well:) cant have it all lol im also gonna be getting java moss for the white clouds i have a pretty plump female who looks like shes gonna explode..thx devilfish thats interesting:) i just never learned how to rear fry and i want to try it and see how it goes:) i will keep u all informed thxxx:D
