Not related whatsover to eachother, but 2 questions...

Firstly- Guppies

A guppy gave birth to one fry a while ago, and nothing since. Considering i have 7 females, 2 males i expected some more really. I'm pretty sure at least 4 are heavily pregnant with large bellies and black gravid spots. Is it possible that some guppies just will not breed? Should i look at getting a few more?
(before any1 does ask, parameters are all good, and are fed a varied diet)

second question- Swordtails

My female swordtail gave birth about 2 week ago, i've managed to get 14 healthy fry out of the 18 she give birth to. I've got just 1 male and 1 female, would it be an idea to introduce another female? I've got the space for fry if needs be. Not because of any problems, just wandered do males prefer more than 1 female?

Thanks in advance guys.

It is possible with the guppies that they have given birth and the fry have been eaten. Swordtail fry are much bigger which would explain why they survived. As for having more females it is a good idea. The best ratio for livebearers is 1m/2-3f Good luck!

Ok thankyou. I've noticed at my LFS he now has in stock some huge female guppies, not particularly pregnant but very large in size. Are these likely to produce more fry?

Yes they are the older more mature guppies can produce alot more fry than younger smaller guppies.

I always buy the HUGE females when I can find them. They make good breeders and always have alot of fry. Buy as many as u can lol
