My dad told me today that someone who works for him kept a marine tank. Emphasis on the KEPT. He had a good setup and one day did something really stupid. 30% water change with tap water.
Result= dead fish, corals and inverts and a marine tank that was left empty.

What a time for him to tell my dad that story just as i was starting marine lol.

scared now..... :p

He was in a hurry because his anemone died and polluted the tank so he must have forgotten something, probably de-chlorinator.

Tap waters differ in different areas so probably lives in an area where there water is contaminated with certain minerals that will not serve well in a marine set-up eg. copper etc!

Personally I wouldn't ever risk using tap water and go RO all the way!

Yup, prolly a high content of copper and chlorine only mixed briefly. And people wonder why we reccomend RO units ;). 9 out of 10 times you can use tapwater, but I don't want to be the person that reccomended to the 1 of 10 guy that he doesn't need an RO unit
