I've been looking for the perfect plant for my aquarium for a while. My top choices were pennywort and jungle val. I guess they're both really popular because I couldn't find either. Finally I found some jungle val but it was beaten up, yellow and pretty ravaged. I bought it anyway in desperation. Right now its about 3 inches tall. Will I be able to nurse it back to life so that it will grow healthily to the top of my tank? -_-

Is anyone familiar with jungle val?---Scientific name Vallisneria americana "gigantea"???

All I know is that it gets huge! I hope you have a big tank :)

Unless it is completely rotten it may well grow back OK.

Snip all the leaves that you can bear with lossing. This will help the plant to stop trying to repair itself. Keep some of the best leaves you have and make sure to keep it pruned and pack it up with nutrients. Though I do not have full knowledge of this plant, this should help.

If the roots look healthy, it should be fine. It grows like a weed. I have it in a tank with good lighting and CO2 and in another tank with low light and no CO2 -- either way, I'm always trimming it back. I've even left it in a 5 gallon bucket with no heat and no light for a week before I replanted it and it was fine. It seems to be a very hardy plant.

Also, it does much better if there is something in the gravel like laterite or at least root tabs.
