Just got 6 Julii cories yesterday. Got them settled in the tank last night and up until a short time ago everything seemed fine.

Now one of them is swimming up and down the edge of the tank, and it looks like, I swear, it has a bright red tongue sticking out of its mouth just a little. No other signs of problems.

Any ideas? He looks like he's in trouble.

Banged his mouth on something in the tank after getting a scare? I would keep an eye on it and make sure it keeps eating and no infection sets in, hopefully it's just the fishy equevlent of a human stubbing their toe, not nice but also not usually life threatening

Its normal for cories to swim up & down the edges, around the glass etc...

Have you fed owt recently? bloodworm??

Any chance of a pic?

Nope.

And Harlequins, all I've fed so far is flakes this morning. Now I don't see him/her, or I should say, I don't see one with a red thing sticking out of its mouth racing up and down the glass. I'm starting to think it might have gotten something caught in its mouth and was racing around trying to get it loose?

EDIT: Got a couple of really crappy photos, but you might be able to see it.

They're all active today, and I can't spot the one with the red mouth. I guess that means either he's disappeared or cured.

I'm more concerned with the couple that have very pink gills.

The pink is more noticeable on some tri's,a few of mine look more pink in a certain light, but they're fine. :)

Has long has your stats are zero you should be ok.The only other possibility is bacterial infection, but if the cory is active & eating then i wouldn't worry too much at this time.

Excellent. They all seem to be fine, although the puncs are excellent shoalers and the trillis rarely do.

Is there a visual guide out there that will tell me about the different species of cory?

I have 15 tri's and they amble around has oppose to shoaling, although they do all hang out together :)

Have a look on planet catfish, has excellent info on different cory/catfish species etc :good:
