Hi all,
my Julidochromis transcriptus is acting a little odd.
Im a bit worried about its behavior.
When I first got him, he was adevnturous and confident, but now he sticks himself to a rock and refuses to move.
i suspect its because another fish has harrased him, but I have never seen this.
I keep him in a 150L tank with some cardinals, black neons, 5 congo tetras (who seem to be getting increasingly active/aggressive), 2 gold rams, an African Krib and a couple of loaches.
I have seen discussion of congos saying you should keep 6 or more, and am thinking maybe if i get a couple more it will calm them down, as it may be their boystrous behavior which is freaking out the gombe?
He doesnt even seem interested in feeding now, which has me worried.
He moves around a bit, but never leaves the bottom of the tank anymore, preffering instead to 'hop' around the gravel.
Any advice would be much appreciated!
Thanks all.

EDIT: Found out the proper name, more description of the problem.

it sounds like you have the wrong setup, you shouldent keep african cichlids with tetras, most loaches, or south/cetral american cichlids.

the ph is probably the problem, tanganyikan cichlids like to be in a ph range of 8.0-8.5 thats ideal, were as the tetras and the rams and most laches prefer lower ph around 7.0-7.5.

that could be the reason for your transcriptus is acting odd

Oh really? I thought that because my other chichlid was in great condition (the Krib) then he would be ok? He was also acting fine for the first few days, and then suddenly one day decided to become a hermit. Is that normal behavior for pH related issues?
Thanks for your feedback!

kribs dont live in african rift lakes, they are a riverine species there ph is lower then rift lake species
i dont own any african cichlids atm but when i was helping a friend with his 6" electric blie ahli my ph was 7.8 and he was always hiding, later after i put some lime stone in and put a filter sack of crushed coral in my filter he was fine. the fish later died becuase of starvation(not my fault, he wouldent eat in my friends 125 gallon and he wouldent eat in my hospital tank)

i would suggest bringing him back to your lfs
