Hi

I ' got a 100 gallon tank with malavi cichlids lots of hiding spaces. About four weeks ago I added 4

Julidochromis and they where happy untill I came home this evening I noticed one hiding behind some piping

just noticed one is dead the other one sitting on top of a rock not moving much and the last one is ok. All my

other fish in the tank are ok too. I was once told that you should not put these fish with malawis as they are

to aggrassive but my fish left them well alone. I done a nitrite test straight away and thats perfect. ( All other

fish are ok other than the Julidochromis. There is no visible disease on them. Has anybody got any idea

what it could be. I have has these fish before together with Malawis and we even got them to breed.

HELP

well instead of only buying four, you should have purchased more like 6-10, their monogamous breeders, they pair off for life and will fight to the death any other julie interferring with the pairing.

If their rocks/decor are screwd with they will be stressed to the point of higher agression then what they usualy exhibit.

you never stated what malawi you had them with also????

someone once told you not to mix them that person was right....

Hi

Thanks for the reply.

I ve got Placidochomis Electra, Aulonocara, Nyassachromis and what I call Marmalades dont know the propper name for them. I have had all these fish before about 10 years ago before we moved and i had to keep the tank in the garage until about 6 month ago. And then I has Julidochromis in the same tank and we even had babys. I have been watching the tank all evening and its one of the Julidochromis whos chasing the other two and he waits and then pounces. I never move my rocks about frankly there are to many and the fish where ok for the last 4 weeks. I know if I dont catch the fish and keep them apart the one will kill the remaining two.

Thanks again

The reason for the death and the other hiding is the pairing process that Julies undertake. Any other competitors will be eliminated during this process. Best to get the other fish out now while it is alive and sell it on unless you have another tank for it.

Consider yourself quite fortunate to have a breeding pair and they should start spawning when at around 2 1/2" in size.

what have you beenn feeding it??it could be bloat?

Hi fishfan

I know now what the problem was. Unfortunatly to late for one of the fishes. They had paired up and I

added some barnicals to the tank. I think that disturbed them and one of them just started picking on the others.

I have been told by my lfs that one has to be careful even when doing a water change. Luckely the others

are ok now. Thanks for trying to help everyone.
