Hi , at the moment I have 1 of these in my tank, I was scared to get 2 because I read that males are aggresive towards each other, however I like the fish so much I was wanting to get another 1 or 2 (bigger tank next year), if by chance they were all females would there still be aggression towards each other or if I had a pair would they be aggresive towards any remaining females like Kribensis do ?
Any correspondence would be greatly appreciated :good:

Like all Julidochromis, territory-holding pairs will be aggressive towards anything they view as a threat.

If you had one pair and a bunch of surplus females, those extra females would be tolerated provided those females were able to stay out of the pair's territory. That should be doable in something upwards of 150 litres with lots of rocks. But Julidochromis aren't a harem-forming species, so just because you have more than one female doesn't mean the male will tolerate any other females beyond his current partner.

On the other hand, Julidochromis are pretty tolerant of species they don't view as a threat: midwater cichlids and killifish especially.

In other words, Julidochromis are more like angelfish than Apistogramma.

Cheers, Neale
