Don't worry about the stings, they grow a new one every 3-4months & shed the old one. be careful handling the discarded sting as it can still be toxic.

the ray is severely underfed, feed BW, prawn/shrimp/ whitebait /mussel at least 3x a day, As much as it will eat, & it will eat more than you will believe.

I second this comment. Looks much too skinny and very oddly shaped. There is also a big chunk missing from it.

I think you need a bigger tank, and for now, no tank mates.

Another food to look out for is live earth worms. Try the local pet shop for them, if they sell reptiles they will probably sell earth worms. At work I normally feed the rays earthworms twice a day and they love them, if it isn't earthworms then I will feed them krill.

Perfect.. I have been feeding him 5X a day since I got him! I cant believe how much he eats.

And about the disk being in bad shape.. it was from the previous owner.. he had another fish in his tank that was nipping at the stingrays disk... makes me wonder how someone wouldn't notice that, but anyways it is healing.

I would really prefer to see that ray left where he naturally belongs, no offence to you on that. I know this is a touchy subject as someone might say that all fish should be left in their natural habitat...but i think its easier and more accessible to create a good home for less demanding species especially when it comes down to the spacial aspect, that tank just looks too small. I hope for the sake of the ray you'll get him a bigger tank.

I think your doing a great job taking it away from the last owner who seemed to neglect it. Glad you are trying to help it out. :good:
