At 2to 3 cm, they are young, but as they begin to become sexually mature they will become aggressive and inch for inch in my view,,these are very grouchy fish when and if they decide to breed. I might keep them until such time as a pair or two formed and then remove the rest lest they be injured/killed.
The males ,when sexually mature will hound the female(s) of their choice and will dispatch other males and or females that show no interest in their advances.
Goes without saying that not many other fishes would be welcome in even a large tank with numerous Jewel cichlids.
They are a beautiful fish.

P.S. Fish are prolly around two months old. (guessing from size now) At around four to five months, they can become sexually active.
Do be aware that there is not a large demand for fry should you decide to breed these fish and there is a very good possibility that the fishes offered are from one spawn and therefore I would not attempt to breed siblings back with each other.

thanks for that i am just playing with ideas for the empty tank at the moment

They should be fine, but as previously stated they are a nasty bunch. i have some 3 to 4 week old Jewel fry at the moment. They are excellent parents (except for the fact that the female killed the male). They are also very beautiful fish, and if you plan well, would be a wonderful addition.
