Planning to get a rio 180 and use it as a reef tank.

Question is can you remove the internal jewell filter completly from the tank?

i can imagine you can but just want to check

yes you can
they are siliconed in place on all four corners (back)
you need a knife (the kind that slides in and out with break of sections)
slide it between the glass and the fliter house and cut,
After removing the box clean off any residue with a razor blade.

EDIT the juwel boxes, with media sell fro around £20 on ebay so stick it on there and get some cash back :)

will do thanks, wish you had the option of just buying tank and cabinet, but even with the equiptment they still work out cheaper than the seabray or simular tanks and cabinets

Hey Maestor,
I think Juwels were designed for plant enthusiats, on mainland europe planted tanks have been the way to go far longer than over here in the UK. Juwels are very good for planted setups, filterwise and it easy to upgrade lighting.

If you read the Christmas PFK there is a page on converting Juwels for marine use.

Yeah i read that, thanks

Dont reckon much tp the author though, i met him once at stm and thought was a right know it all, very argumentative

If you want to take out the filter unit from a Jewel tank, then why not get a basic tank without fittings. It must work out cheaper than a Juwel.

the biggest tank i cant possibly fit in is a 40 inch which is what the jewel is, and aquarium manufactures dont do that size

You can use the internal filter for marines. They get rid of the large stuff. Not recomended though.
