they're looking like responsible parents! great pics btw, i always love mommy/daddy with the babies pictures lol

You have a beautiful pair there. The dark, blood red color of the female and the bright blue fins on the dad will make some very nice looking babies! Congrats! Keep us posted as the fry grow out!

Congratulations!

Your fry are beatiful! job well done. I look forward to seeing how they will look once they've matured

Hi again :D Thanks everyone for your compliments

Yep my jewels are alone in a 30 gallon. From all the information I got from people on here, read on sites and asked at fish shops I was told it was best to keep them in a tank by themselves as they are one of the most aggressive cichlids. I heard you can keep them with other similar fish in bigger tanks but seeing as I've only got them in a 30 gallon I wouldn't try to put anything else with them.

I've got a lot of plants in the tank along with a couple pots and some rocks. They were pretty shy to begin with and most of the time didn't show too much color but they have really come around this last week (only had them for 2 weeks) and both are keeping their intenese red coloring now.

They are the only type of cichlid I've got at the moment and they are definitly great parents. Yesterday when they were all out for their first swim anytime some of the fry strayed too far away mom or dad would go round them up in their mouths and spit them back with the rest of the fry.

Now that the fry are swimming about I am guessing there are atleast 100 or so :S Not sure what to do with them all. Since it's their first batch I think I'll raise them out. My lfs said they would take their fry from me. In upcoming batches though I think I'll feed quite a few to my other fish.

I would really recommend this fish. It's by far one of the most beautiful cichlids in my opinion and it's got a lot of personality. :)

 lovley piccies ! Hope they grow strong and healthy :flex:

First picture is fantastic........so many fry!!!

And i was going to ask what you were going to do with them all, but you answered that one.

Beautiful fish, great job :)

Such beautiful parents and fry  congratulations!

Thanks for the info, sounds like I may have a new fish idea for my empty 20 long, can't believe you've already got fry and they've only been in the tank 2 weeks, sounds like they will breed as readily as my kribs do :):thinks of all the fishy fry he's going to have swimming around::).

Thanks again for the info,
Phillip
