Jellys Puffer

Is it me or does that fish not look very healthy or is it supposed to look like that ??

+1, certainly is unsually for a puffer to be laying on the bottom but saying that, im by no means a puffer expert :) interesting fish!

Thats the way its meant to look its perfectly healthy
It is usually quite active around the tank, I was lucky and it was stationary at the time of the photos.
Now its alot darker than you can see in the photos probably due to the dark substrate its in with.
Yes its freshwater however we know that he/she can be kept in weak brackish water.

Jelly will hopefully tell you more about this Puffer and his other Puffers.

It's perfectly healthy.

Most puffers in freshwater are divided into 2 groups, open swimmers, and ambush lurkers. Sitting on the bottom is what half of the group does. It either waits tucked away somewhere, or buries itself.

These fish photos are great. With that white tummy, to me I'd say M. Cambodgiensis.

cheers for the info :good:

He's/She's 4.5" and may get a little larger. It's got a great charactor. You can hear teeth bagging on the glass when it attacks its reflection.

As already mensioned has taken on a much darker colour probably because of the gravel. I will be using a lighter substrate this weekend so should get some of the original colour back.

Yes there are a large number of Puffers that sit and wait for food. Normally termed 'Lurkers' in puffer circles.

I have been having a discussion on another forum and it may not be M. Cambodgiensis but M. leiurus. They are very very simalar. Leiurus has a shorter nose.

I am swaying towards Cambodgiensis
