Well, a few weeks ago I was looking at photos on the net and decided to look at planted aquariums and I like what I saw. So I started to do some research on them for a while and chose to convert my 100 gallon into a planted aquarium. I have been keeping Severums and Firemouths for the past year and have really enjoyed them, but I came across a temporary job opportunity that payed me about $700 and I figured I better take advantage of this time and start planting.

I ordered laterite and flourite for my substrate, I am going to have 148 watts in lighting, I decided to go with pressurized co2, and am using dry ferts. All of these should be in sometime this week, at least by Friday.

Also, I have a nice size piece of driftwood i am going to use. I have been soaking it for about 3 weeks now and all of the tannins have leached and it is water logged. It is a pretty piece of wood, kind of viney looking instead of big bulky tree stump like.

Now I have came to a point where i decide which plants to get, this is harder than I realized. All I have decided on using so far is dwarf baby tears as a carpet. So I was hoping that you guys on here could help start choosing plants. What do you think eh?

its hard to just suggest plants becuase their are so many but if you draw a sketch or a layout of the basic colors and shapes of leaves you want it will make it a lot easier.
Good luck!!

we all want our tanks to look like that

yes there lovely aquariums. you still need to narrow it down though. theres many different styles on that page. :good:

i do apologies, ive just seen youve added 2 names to your post.

well it looks like glosso is on your list for starters. (forground carpet plant ) vallis. or c heferi. in jiri panack' tank. roughly how tall is your tank?

they are both dutch aquariums (although not true dutch as they contain rocks & wood) so you are after stem plants then?

this is an idea of how i would like it

cyperus helferi or vallis

rotala rotundifolia
rotala sp. green
bacopa australis
miceranthemum micranthemoides
limnophilia aromatica
heternantha zosterfolia (star grass)
anubias sp.
rotal macranda
glossostigma elatinoides
Hemanthius calacthricoides

any of them? I have listed what plants are in some of the tanks in the link given and what your plan shows and what i think. Take a look at them, they are all very different.

I have looked at your list and looked around online and have made my own:
Cyperus helferi
Bacopa australis
Eusteralis stellata
Hemianthus callitrichoides
Ludwigia ovalis
Myriophyllum tuberculatum
Red nesaea

what do you think, does that sound good?

sorry I did not see where you asked how tall my tank is 5ft long x 20.5 inches tall x 18 inches wide, and yes I want stem plants.
