So, I had my sorority set up with 7 at the start, right? It looked perfect. And then it went sort of downhill from there.

I had the green female die on me a week into the sorority. She looked as if she drowned; her head was stuck in the rocks when I fished her out.

After that, I separated one female and bred her (and then I stupidly turned off the lights and lost ALL the eggs, on the first night, too!!) 'cause she was aggressive. That was the red one. I put her back into the breeding trap when she was done breeding.

However, the sight of her flaring ticked off my chocolate-bodied red/blue female, so she started flaring at the red female and chasing around the purple one. I separated the purple one and stuck her into the other compartment in Libra's tank; I'm gonna breed her and Libra. My mind's made up. :lol:

Well.... ANYWAYS. I noticed that Queenie wasn't feeling too good, so I guessed that it might have been the chocolate-bodied red/blue girl. I put a divider in the breeding trap (it's the 2L Betta Barracks by Marina), and placed her in it.

Queenie seems okay now, and I currently just have the two cories and Aqua, Queenie, and my other female Betta who is purple and red, and has long front.... dangly.... fins with white tips. I haven't decided on a name for her yet. :) Only the red one has a name so far out of my newest females; her name is Red Devil -- suits her personality quite well. :lol:

Sooooo, yeah. I can *NEVER* get a sorority to work unless I have only two or three females!! Grr.... I'd like to have more, but they always terrorize each other!! I will have to buy a 10-gallon tank on Boxing Day, so I can divide it or just make a sorority of mean girls who always hurt each other!! :grr: Grr.... But yeah, if I get the 10-gallon tank I'll probably divide it into three, stick a male in the middle compartment and have the two violent females in their own compartments.... ^^;

Sorry. Just wanted to complain. :p

Blimey, they are a feisty lot!!

My sorority didnt work out either :( after discovering 2 of them were actually male Plakats and swapping them for definate females, they all but one died, water stats were all ok, no visible signs of disease just couldnt figure it out.

The surviving female has been living in the community tank for about 4 months now and seems pretty happy, no sress stripes or nipping (yet)!!

Are they actually injuring each other? I thought it was normal to get spats and chasing in a sorority? Amybe do a huge change round in the tank and then reintroduce them all in one go?

I find that some girls are just more mean than others just as in the males, you will always get a dominant one in any group and this one will cause the most hassle, if she is removed the second in line in dominance will take her place and continue the hassle! bettas are the most difficult fish to work with! my girls are forever terrorising one another especially the two older unrelated ones, the sibling sisters don't argue too much, changing the tank around does not make any difference, the dominant girl will still be dominant just perhaps slightly distracted for a short while but once settled will continue her reign of terror! the most girls I have had together is 7 with the biggest and oldest the boss, perhaps matching age and size is the key plus adding more to dissipate aggression, sibling sisters even better! :good:
