So they do change colors? Mine has yellow and purple and has black stripes on a grey body. He also changes colors at feeding time.

yeah they do change colors, they appear darker when angry or territorial and lighter when scared or getting harrassed. The blues and greens are also stronger when the fish is eating or on the attack. Really nice looking fishes hey?

Yes , they do .
You can search members photos for pics or do what BlueIce suggested , Google images are a good source for pics [ images ].

When they are young they will change color , sometimes quickly from lighter [ yellow/brown to the grey color you mention to a darker brown in the body , and change color due to various reasons , the blueish green flecks are always present.

When mine got past 4 or 5 " they stayed dark brown to very dark brown , at times looking almost black , never got that lighter color again , Some also had a faint violet tinge to the body.
