Hello,
I have a Jack Dempsey called Scrubs, had it for a couple of years now, seems healthy in a tank thats well matured and balanced nicely.

My only problem is that he seems to become addicted to one food group at a time, even though I have always tried to feed a varied diet.

I started feeding him Hikari Gold pellets for Cichlids, I supplemented it with this and that, and started feeding him mealworms as a treat every other day or so, but he started not wanting anything but mealworm, hes quite aggressive and like to jump at the food as I feed it, and soon wasn't accepting any staple food like hikari or flakes or anything.

Then he went off mealworm suddenly without explanation, so i tried a few things and he readily accepted dried tubilflex, again he likes to jump up and rip it from my fingers as I'm breaking the cubes up in the water, making feeding times feel a but like russian roulette but very fun.

The problem is he still won't take anything else accept the occasionly pea or veg I put in to try and supplement their diets with.

Not a massive problem as hes been like this for months now and still seems healthy, nut tubiflex is quite expensive to use a staple diet.

Any suggestions on how to get round this would be appreciated. I have tried just giving pellets etc but they go ignored for days and I always relent and feed him after a while as I worry it'll do more harm than good.

I'm not sure whether its because he prefers feeding thats more active than just sucking up stuff from the surface..

Starve it until it takes the pellet, it will get hungry and be eating it again in a few days.
