Says it does 50l-500 l, so more than sufficient!
You could DIY one with a regulator, solenoid, fire extinguisher etc saving on cost of refills, there's a pinned article by thermelous in the planted section I believe

For a 15gal you could even just use 600g single use bottles from toolstation, they cost under a tenner and should last 4-6 months IME.

Looks like a good kit though the diffuser looks massive.

See I know nothing about pressurised systems though im a bit wary of using the fore extinguisher method as I tend to explode things  If I got the single use one would I need to buy the regulator, diffuser and all that bumf separate?

Sorry to bump my post but I want to get something soonish cos im getting a fair bit of staghorn algae. I dont mind shelling out for that one but would also consider a cheaper or DIY FE one if that would be better. What you think?

I'd just buy that whole kit + a Lunapet solenoid off eBay (£26). Then once the canister runs out, buy a 600g one from toolstation.

The fire extinguisher method would save money in the long run if you find somewhere that will refill it, and will save maybe £20-£30 on initial setup...but you have to buy the parts from so many different online places, and I feel safer buying an all-in one solution too.

It's cheaper now, £24.49 delivered. Use the extra pennies on an euro-UK adapter if you don't have one lying around ( http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TRAVEL-ADAPTOR-CONVE...id=p3286.c0.m14 ). Can also get the adapters in pound shops or Maplins.

They are great solenoids, run very cool and are much quieter than any of the others I've seen (like the JBL and AquaMedic ones).

Crap just how loud are they as the tanks in my bedroom

That Lunapet one is silent unless you put your ear right up to it :good:.

The bigger more expensive Aquamedic ones aren't very noisy really, but can be heard as a hum unless they are in a cabinet, much like an external filter.

They are all 100% silent during the night though (when they are turned off, closing the magnet inside and shutting off CO2).

When turning on and off they make a clicky noise, again, the Lunapet one is quiet and you would have to be listening for it, but the Aqua Medic one can be heard across a room full of running airpumps.

Ah thats ok then. So I should buy that solenoid just now yeh? I was gonna see how the thing ran without it first. I trust your judgement though and its not too pricey.

I'd get the solenoid, with disposable canisters it saves a lot of money on CO2 and makes it harder to accidentally put too much CO2 in at night when your not able to watch the tank.

For example, you could try injecting CO2 at a certain rate and it's fine during the day when the plants are using most if not all of it up...but as soon as the lights go out the pH could drop very low depending on how much your putting in, and it's harder to watch the fish all night to gauge their response.

So what I do is just inject as much as I can without it having any noticeable effect on the shrimp/fish then shut it off an hour before the lights go out just to be safe.
