I ordered the JBL Gyrodactol as my male plakat has these worms hanging off him which are small flukes. I have been using flake with added garlic and it has shifted about 70% of them but he is still clamping his fins and not looking too happy with things. The females have started rubbing their gills also.
I also ordered the Ektol fluid at the same time.

I read the instructions and though my ph is fine at 7.2 it says that it should only be used if the KH is over 8 and mine is at 3.
Has anyone used it with a low KH reading and if so did it alter the chemistry of the tank and would anyone know why it cant be used if the KH is below 8? I'm wondering if its because it might crash the system.

The Ektol seems fine to use but it doesnt look as strong as the Gyrodactol meds.

Any views appreciated thanks. :)

Is there a contact number on the box, phone them and ask if it would be ok to use the med with a low kh.

Only thing I remember seeing from JBL are filter bags, CO2 bottles, Thermometers etc. Seems to be a run-of-the-mill German company that does some fairly good quality stuff.

Maybe ask the retailer where you purchased it if you can have some contact detailers for them?

For worms and other boddy anchoring parasites there is a product from "Waterlife" called Paragon which i have seen work with fairly good efficiency. You can also use TeaTree Oil (Melafix) to get rid of parasites.

Thanks bunjiweb for suggesting the paragon.
