I have a piece of java moss in my 29 and 55 that's looks like a bad afro, it's real weedy--the small cory's and betta love setting in it and it does look pretty nice, I was wondering how I would go about taking some of it and attaching it to the piece of drift wood without making a mess out of it. I was also curioous if it would be possible for me to take a small bit as big as a large marble and put it into some declorinated water under a light and would it grow?, also thought about taking some craft sheets from walmart that people use as dividers and tying the moss to it or placing the moss between two of the sheets and growing outside of tank until it got good and ready to put into the bottom of my tanks is this possible?

take the whole lot off then spread it around where you want it.

Yes but you may get algae.

I have seen that before, that is what I'm after. I guess you wouldn't need a whole lot to start with to make it grow like that. I was wondering if I put it into a tank by itself in front of a window if it'd grow. Like you said the algae may be a problem, would that damage the moss.

moss & algae = the worst thing in planted tanks. At least with broad leaf plants you can pick it off, if you get algae in moss then you have to treat it somehow depending on which algae it is.

Dont you have an aquaroum light? Java moss can yake a few eeks to get going as it can be grown emersed therefore it has to change, but once it starts, you will soon have a wall. How big is the wall you are planning on covering?
