Ive been thinking about buying some java moss (clumps), but have a couple of questions:

I have no light in my tank, will it still survive/thrive?(My tank gets quite alot of sunlight if that helps.)
Does it fall apart easily, so you have lots of tiny bits floating around your tank?
Does it require a fert?
Will it survive if i ordered some off the net? (I would order some from the UK, i live in leeds.)

Thanks in advance, adam.

dunno.
No, java moss is quite adhesive and can root together.
No but it may benefit.
I dont know where leeds is but if its not in another country (relatively far enough) it should survive.

Thanks for your help :), anyone answer the first question. Also how should i go about putting it in the tank? Just stick it in the tank on a piece of drift/bog wood as soon as it arrives?

Well if any plant or moss is to survive in a tank with no flourescent light it is probably Java moss, it is a very hardy moss, it certainly will not probably thrive in your tank but it may survive and grow very slowly, but the thing about Java moss is that with very low levels of light it can look and grow very ragged, its worh a try i suppose, basically just tie it onto rock or bogwood and it will attach itself eventually, just use some cotton thread to tie it down, the moss will sink so you wont find bits floating at the surface.

Just purchased two "clumps" of java moss, also im buying a light starter unit tomorrow. Thanks again.
