Hi, I have some java moss in the tank, its been in there for around 2 months and is growing nice and slowly.

A lot of the time, the java moss still gets stuck to the filter pipes which I remove when I see it, and also the stainless steel heater....do I need to remove the java moss that is stuck onto the heater? Will the heater kill the java moss that is stuck to it, if I don't remove it?

If its okay to leave the java moss on the heater, will the bits of java moss affect the heater's operational efficiency, or even cause the heater to break?

Some java moss was stuck to the heater yesterday, and I just left it there, and to my surprise, when I checked on it today, it almost doubled in growth....it seemed to grow much much quicker than the other java moss around the tank.

The temp in the tank is 30oC.

If it were me Id remove it, it might affect the heaters ability to heat the water and the heater is something I personally wouldnt mess with, there is far to much potnetial for it to go wrong and overheat the tank killing all the fish, not worth the risk in my book, but thats just me

Sam

Thanks Sam. I was also considering the risk the moss would post on the heater....the risk far outweighs the benefits of growing the moss there so I'll take it out.

Is there a way to stop the java moss from floating around the tank and attaching itself to parts of the tank that are can do without it, such as filter pipes and heaters?

I've attached most of the java moss onto driftwood and some plastic mesh, to creat a carpet effect.

The rest of the java moss is attached to the java fern and crypts - will this kill these 2 plants? I never actually see the java moss floating around the tank per se, but I do see it eventually attaching onto the filter pipe, this happens everyday!!

Haha the wonders of java moss! Im not sure if you can stop it floating around, it probably does that on purpose to help it find new growing areas. I used to have java moss in my nano and when I took it out I put the bogwood in a bucket of really hot water and some pf it still managed to survived! And I STILL find pieces of the stuff growing in odd places in my tank and I removed it months ago!
