I have a Java Fern in my 20 gallon planted tank. The other plants I have like the fertilizers and supplements I use, but I read that Java Ferns don't like that. Mine is now currently turning black. I'd like to move it in my 5 gallon Betta tank, but I have 1 mystery snail and 1 pond snail. Would the snails eat it? I'd assume they would, but also heard most tend to leave Java Ferns alone? I think either way my plant is going to die. :(

Mystery snails don't eat plants, and pond snails don't do much damage unless they're in large numbers. But if your plant is dying, they might find a meal in that.

I have java fern in my tank which i dose EI and CO2, it's doing very well, nice and green, so i would think maybe there's some other reason why it's turning black.

My Java Fern (Microsorum pteropus) recently turned black and shot out a load of sprouts. Once I removed the sprouts and took of all of the nasty looking leaves off it shot out a load of fronds (or whatever you want to call them) and now it looks better than ever.

Two tips.
Feed your snails with cucumber, courgette, and supermarket veggies every night. They prefer these to your plants, and a well fed snail is a trouble free snail.
Try tying the Java fern to bog wood with fishing line. The roots will grow down into the substrate, and the plant will be much happier with its crown above the gravel. Good luck...
