Java Fern

I have a single java fern in my tank that is just sitting on top of the gravel, held down by a plant weight. I don't have anything that I want to use to attatch it to, so I just leave it sitting there. Is this ok for the plant or is anchoring it to something a better idea?

Anchoring is prefferable id imagine for aesthetic purposes and aquascaping attempts, but leave it floating and it should bud off some new plants in no time!
