Excuse me if this has been discussed recently but if it has I've missed it.

I have a java fern that I've recently moved from one 2 gallon nano to another. It was beautiful in the original tank, grown there from a plantlet, but getting too big for it's space. So I moved it and placed it as a centerpiece in a new tank. After being there for only a couple of days it started getting brown edges to the leaves, and now, several days later, every leaf is affected and the plant has almost completely rotted away. All the leaves are brown, mushy, and dead, about two dozen in total.

Can someone tell me what happened? The tank also has anachris and two varieties of anubias, as well as a java fern plantlet, all of which seem to be unaffected.

Did you plant the Java Fern in the substrate in its new location?

No, I tied it to driftwood. I doubt that even if the rhizome was buried in sand it would have rotted so quickly. Thats the craziest thing about it--that it happened so fast.

when you moved it - how long was it out of the water - Java fern hates drying out - when it does - the leaves quickly die off...

Oooo, that could be a possibility. I took a while to get it tied to the driftwood and situated in the tank, fussing about which way it should be turned, etc.. I didn't know they were particularly sensitive to that. Its too bad. It was the prettiest one I had.
