I've never had problems with my java fern before but recently the new leaves have that have been growing are have really been deformed. There are large sections of the leaves that just don't grow and the rest of leaf that does grow is brown and full of holes. Anybody know why? Any suggestions on how to fix it?

sounds like a nutrient deficiency, or root restriction. this may sound drastic, but in the garden I would cut the leaves right back, check the roods (divide th eplant if neccesary), and replant with some fertiliser.

Hope that helps!

Do you have it tied to a rock or driftwood or planted in the substrate? Java Ferns should not be planted in the substrate. They also take a great majority of their nutrients directly from the water column so dosing with a good, all-around fertilizer may help (SeaChem Flourish is excellent in my experience with it)

SO Java fern Must be tiet to something? they cant be planted? hmmm I didn't know that...

Best buy some more bogwood before mine arrives!

you can sort of plant it - it has "roots" that it uses to cling to surfaces... push that into the substrate and you'll be ok - just leave the rhizone above the surface of the substrate ;)

I want mine to stay on the supstrate without wood, I put some plant weight round the rhizone ;)

It went in the post today by the way...

Ahh thank you very much! thats excellent :>:>

Thats good, means I can plant them in my main tank, I have substrate but not an amazingly deep one, should be ok as I have no really boistrous fish. thanks again :>
