I just had to share this picture.....

plantlets.jpg

It's just amazing!!! :hyper:

Now, that's cool. I had a tiny java fern someone sold me for $4, and it kicked out a couple tiny tiny plantlets as it passed on. I accidently flushed this itty bitty one down the toilet yesterday. I forgot it was there, saw a mess bowl of water, chucked it down the toilet, and then "gah!"

Ah, and it was doing so well, too. It barely a couple mm across.

I hope my remaining rhizome does as well as yours is, I have it under FAR better light (than it was under previously)...

should i plant the java fern with the roots under the gravel or should i tie my java fern on to a driftwood or something. I heard plants with rhizomes should have their roots above the water.

wait till the leaves are about 1.5 inches long then gently pull them from the "mother" leaf.

then strap them to a piece of wood with cotton thread and by the time the thread rots the plant will be attached to the wood.

If you like the look, you can leave them. That's what I do, I like the way they form a thick layered look over time. Eventually some will fall off on their own and then I attach them to something.

Cheers.

That reminds me, I have tied the mother plant on with fishing line, should I cut it off or can I just leave it on?

I would just leave it, unless it's visible and you want to remove it. In that case, let it grow for a few months before you cut it off.
