I got a java fern at a local chain store probably about 3 weeks ago, and I stuck it on my bogwood. When I got it, it was brown, black spots, planted in the gravel, just not healthy in general. So, I split it up into three pieces. They're now a bright lime green, the biggest piece has sent out a plantlet which I stuck on the bogwood, and all the pieces are putting out new leaves like every two days. Everybody always says that java fern is a slow grower, but it seems to be growing almost as fast as my jungle val. Is this normal, or did I over-estimate how slow they grow? I've got 2x 24 Watt bulbs, 6500k, and 650 nm (that's what it said, the output color is called roseate). 2.4 Watts per gallon. I dose Flourish by the recommended dosage twice a week. Liquid carbon by the recommended dosage every morning. So, is this normal?

Mine doesn't grow that quickly. Goes in spurts though. I can go a few months with no plantlets then suddenly grow a bunch. Takes a good few months for mine (in a high light environment) to go from about 1 1/2 inches to about 6ish inches.

Okay, I figured mine was growing a little quicker than normal.

Maybe he is just grateful that you saved him, either way, how awesome that it's growing so healthy and fast. Do you have any algae problems in your tank?

Yeah, on the glass I've got algae, and hair algae on some plants. -.-
I even got three BNs, and they haven't touched it. They just sit in their bogwood cave and chill all day.
