Java Fern -- Growing?

My java fern has been growing roots off of it's leaves. At first I thought it was some kind of algae, so I kept pulling it off, but then I figured it might not hurt it, so I left it, and now there are tiny java ferns growing off of the leaves. Should I take them off and put them on the rock with the others or should I leave them on the leaves?

Also, do they have to be attaches to something, or can I just plant them in my sand?

my java fern growns rots out of the middle stem in fact i have three different plants which are doing the same thing but not out of leaves. i dunno if its anything bad it could be natural like the longer u keep ur light on the healther ur plant is thought photosynthesis. (oversly too much is bad)
