I think 22W over 35Ltr (9USG) = 2.5WPG which is low over a Nano. Not too low though. Its like having 1-1.5WPG over a larger tank which is plenty for plants like Java Ferns.

30bpm on a 35 Ltr sounds pretty high though so you should have enough CO2 in there to support the light. 2ml of TPN+ sounds fine too.

I am guessing Dave's guess above is right and I would agree with him completely.

The only thing that I picked up on was you said it was planted in TetraComplete Soil. Is there no gravel or sand on top? It should be capped. It could be a possibility that there are too many trace elements (metals like copper and iron) in the water due to it leaching from the Tetra rather than being a slow release from under the cap layer.

Copper and Iron and other traces are needed by plants but too high a level can cause the opposite effect in killing them!!!

LOL, told the OP not to listen to me :p.

Never quite worked that one out though?.... why doesalot of light over a nano not equate to the same as a larger tank?

Probably very basic answer, i just never really understood it lol

Something to do with the square area of X + the right angle of Y x the congomerate effect of BS to the power of 3 divided by......I digress.

Simply put its something to do with the water surface are and the volume of water

LOL cheers for that ......

Transparent tips is perfectly normal on Java fern. Mine used to do it when I had some. I have seen pics of amano`s tanks with some leaves going transparent. They should return to normal of their own accord. Don`t cut them off. The leaf in the picture below soon turned to normal of its own accord.

Dave.

Thanks for that :) the whole leaf has gone see through and sort of hard. I will just let it do its thing for a while.

Yer about 2.5. Id like more but I couldn’t see a better way of doing it without lighting getting too expensive.

Yes sorry - it is capped with about 3cm of fine black gravel. Forgot to mention that.

Thanks for your input and reassurance.
