I have 2 java fern in my cichlid tank, and the larger of the 2 has begun sprouting baby fern from the tops of each leaf. Is this normal? I love it but it seems a strange way to sprout. Would be possible to safely remove them and plant them elsewhere? They have crazy roots coming from them.

Also I have a mixture of rocks in my tank, some being pieces of slate, of which some have pretty sharp edges. Are my fish at risk of harming themselves on them?

regards

Yeah you can plant the little plantlets elsewhere, this is perfectly normal. Sometimes the parent leaf will die soon after producing a plantlet or two, but this isn't a cause for concern either if the rest of the plant looks healthy.
