Hi

I have 7 of these little guys and yesterday morning we gave our tank a proper clean out, plants, rocks, water, everything!
Anyway- someone was always watching the tank so that nothing could jump out.

This morning we found a Japonica shrimp on a bedroom floor, 15-20 yards away!! How could this have happened?!?!

Maybe the shrimps that jumped out went through a molt and the person who was wathing the tank thought the molts were shrimp and was watching them instead and then the shrimp that wernt being watched just jumped out, was someone watching them the whole time?

You should always secure a lid/hood on any tank that contains these shrimp very securely. In the wild these shrimp move downstream towards the sea to more brackish water conditions to breed, during this they have to climb over rocks and often area's with little (even no) water etc, so they are more than capable of climbing out of a fish tank and making quite a journey across the carpet before drying out  .

Sound like Salmon in shrimp form.

I've kept a few different kinds of shrimp now (Amano, Ghost, Red-Nosed, Cherry, Crystal Red, Green, and Tiger), and Amano shrimp are by far the most "land tolerant." When I net the other shrimp they go limp and sit on their sides. Amano shrimp will (just like a little crayfish) crawl out of the net.

My guess is it jumped and then crawled about for a bit until it dried out.
