ok i just got a job so in like 2 weeks or so i should have my 55g maybe a bit bigger depense on parents anyways could i mix Africans with Jack Dempseys? Or if not i might get a breeding pairs of dempseys at my LFS wat else could i put in there with them?

dempseys should be kept with new world cichlids. they are not a community type of fish. even the more aggressive of the africans would be viewed as food to the dempsey. also dempseys are omnivores and require a higher protein than most africans.

55g is also small for a pair of dempseys. a single dempsey requires a minimum of 45g.

That is right. You should try and push for a bigger tank. To answer your question on what to put in with the Jack Dempseys, you should put other big new world cichlids like oscars, red devils, and Texas cichlids but if you don't get a bigger tank it is not going to work.
