When i feed my JD anything... cichlid pellets, shrimp.. all food... he eats it then most all of it comes out of his gills all in small particles.

I can hardley see how half of what he eats goes to his stomich.

Anything wrong with him? Or justa messy eater?

keep an eye on him and if he gets skinnier than he might not be eating enough but if he continues to look healthy than he might just be a messy eater. how big is your JD?

my oscars do that when i change their brand of food, after a few feedings they stop doing this.

hes about 8 inches.

Hes pretty beaten up being in a tank with a Tilipia for years. I just recived the tank and have divided the two up.

Hes on his way up health wise...

mine does this all the time..... i see it as hes feeding the corys in the tank cause they just follow him round hoovering it all up :)

If you watch fish at feeding times, most of them will filter food through their gills, with cichlid pellets you can actually hear them crunching on them like biscuits then see a small powdery substance filter from their gills. This is quite normal and nothing to be worried about.
