Okay here it is, i'm pretty new to fish and unfortunately didn't do a lot of research into cichlids. Long story short i went to my LFS and told them i wanted a convict cichlid and somehow i wound up with a Jack Dempsey. I only have a 25g tank and I'm wondering what to do. Do I need to get rid of him or what?
Thanks

what are the dimensions of your tank and whats the size of the fish at the moment?

however, that should be irrelevant ! if you wanted Convicts then take Jack back and tell em they screwed up mate.

The 26 gal is too small for a JD, if he's a juvenile it may be OK for a short time but he really needs to go back to the LFS unless you plan on getting at least a 55 gal in the very near future.

Cons are much more suited to a tank that size so your original idea should work. :)

will a LFS take it back, i've had him for a month now? I don't know I haven't tried this yet, it just seems so simple, if you know let me know,

the tank dimensions are 60 cm long x 40 cm high x 30 cm deep

Depends on the store.. if you go in and tell them you wanted a convict for your 25g tank, but got a jd, which is too small for a 25g tank, maybe they will be nice and let you switch.

Yep, i agree, thats definately not a 26 gal tank, which also rules out convicts i'm afraid. :/

wow okay what kind of fish do well in a tank of this size, any suggestions, preferably i would like african or new world cichlids, any suggestions

sorry i'm really new to a lot of these terms, what all fall under shell dwellers and aspitos? I'm not sure if I've seen any or if I've seen them under different names
Maniac

shell dwellers - are smaller african rift lake cichlids that are small enough to live in shells.

aspito's - south american fish, type it in google ad have a look at them.

:good:

I'm having problems still finding out what an aspito is. I've typed it into google and nothings coming up, is it known by another name.
