Hi there, I am new to the forums and i have a question regarding my malawi set up..

My tank is a bit of a mixture it is 4 foot long and is around 280 litres i think, i currently have a pair of breeding blue dolphins, 1 frontosia, 1 yellow lab, a sailfin pleco, 1 upside down catfish, 1 other catfish which i am not sure of the species and a Polypterus senegalus.

I have a jack dempsey that lives in a seprate tank on his own, he is quite large and i was wondering would anyone chance putting him in this tank to try him out, i want to get rid of the tank he is in but would like to keep him as he is a stunning fish but i know they can be aggressive. I dont want to just put him in without any advice, would anyone try this or would you say its a big no no?

Many Thanks

Hi emski, i'm afraid the answer is no for two reasons,
firstly the 280L tank is quite well stocked, and already contains a number of large fish that really could do with going into a bigger tank themselves,
The second is the issue of incompatibility, african and american cichlids rarely do well in the same setup and will most likely lead to a lot of aggression

The fish are not large yet, they are all still quite small, so the tank size is fine for them there is more then enough room at the moment. I was more worried about the jack dempsey getting aggressive as i know that they can be quite aggressive, Thanks for your reply.
