Well, I just didn't have time to get a separate tank set up... I got the 10 gallons, and cycled it for 48hrs, but water tests showed it just wasn't ready for me to put her in... I knew she'd get too stressed out in that water.
I tested her water in the tank she's already in... and everything registered really good.. the nitrites need to be brought down a bit (though they're still in the acceptable range...) so I figured I'd try to use the breeder trap.
Bought a breeder trap... took one look at it once it was put together, and threw it out. I can't put her in such a tiny little box poorly ventilated with no swimming room.
So I decided, this time around I'm going to let nature take it's course and let her have her babies in the tank as is. I went to the pet store and bought out their live plant stock. (They just started selling fish a few months ago, so they don't have a lot of stuff yet... but I couldn't wait the 2 days it would take with ordering from Drs Foster and Smith.) So I bought what they had in plants, bought some plant food, bought the proper light for my large tank (they don't have it for my betta tank yet, they had to order one.)
I planted all the plants, fed them, and I'm hoping it's enough for the fry to hide in. hopefully if this happens again, my 10 gallon will be cycled enough to be a proper nursery. So what happens happens I guess. I'm hoping I'll come out with at least a few surviving fry... but if I don't... lesson learned for next time.
