My mated pair of Fire Belly Toads, doing what they spend most of their evenings and nights doing these days.

lol
They are so cute...well, what I can see of them at least :p
I use to have 3 of those.I gave them away because one of my friends really wanted them but couldn't afford to buy them. But they would spend some time everyday on top of each other. This during the spring also. I love all the noises they make

That's because they were mating. Like mine are in this photo. The one on top is the male. The one on the bottom is the female. ;)

I'm hoping to get some tadpoles out of these two. The pet store where I got them already had some earlier this spring...I'm suspecting out of this female, but I (and they) really have no way of knowing.

Edit: Here's another photo of the male Toad. He's waiting in ambush for a female to wander by. He does this when it gets to be late afternoon, and he starts calling, too.

Here's a photo of the female Toad. You can actually see her now! I can tell them apart because the male has those lines on his shoulder, and the female just has the dots.

Yea, they actually gave me a care sheet so I eventually figured they were mating. I had no idea how to tell which ones were females or males though  The people at the store said that the females were really dark and the males were not. Then I found out that toads get darker when they are lacking in vitamins  . They brightened up after I got them...so I was kind of confused for a while.
Yours are so nice though. What size container do have them in? Do you have a filter?

No filter. I just change their water out frequently.

I'm not sure the exact size of the container. It's a plastic storage container. It's VERY long and short, and they seem pretty happy. I've filled it up most of the way so there's only about two inches of open air, and then added floating things for them to climb out on.

Here's a good hint for sexing, and the only one that really seems to work:

The male is the one trying to mate with the other toads.

The female is the one who NEVER tries to mate with the other toads.

My toads are constantly making noises and occasionally grapple eachother, I have a feeling that I have a pari or some confused males

Good luck getting some tadpoles
