Well, I'm getting my stuffs ready for a spawning at the end of January :hyper:
The pair are Melano Halfmoon Male x Steel Blue Halfmoon Female, so although I know I'm going to get some irredescence, its the only way to do it.

Going to go off and get my MW's organised, and order in some live foods at the LFS if its possible - if not, road trip into town.

Decided to start conditioning the female in the spawning tank early, hopefully next week, as she's still young and small and definitely needs some fattening up on rich foods before I attempt anything. After a few weeks with her, maybe on the 2nd week start conditioning the male in his own tank for a week - scrub the spawning tank, divide it and continue conditioning for a week like that. Then I'll move onto the usual start of putting the male in the full tank with the female there but out of reach.

Want to do it slowly and properly, I don't want anybody getting harmed more than they need to be. And since they are young, I definitely want them conditioned properly.

Sound good everyone? :good:

the way you are doing it sounds ok to me, how old are these fish?

good luck with the spawning but dont be alarmed if they dont get it right first time though as they are young and it may take 3 - 5 spawning to actually get fry but ive had recent success with youngsters spawning that produced fry on the first attempt, but then again he was supplied by bettawen and she has a slightly different approach to raising fry to me which is proving to be the cause of first time spawning success in the youngsters.

They're only about 4 months at the most - the male is older than the female, hence my reasons for having her by herself in the spawning tank to see if a couple of weeks on rich foods will do the trick to bulk her up a bit before even thinking of putting them together.

Yep, I've had one successful spawn that I had problem after problem with but I'm taking it as a sort of practise run for doing it properly this time. Was lucky with my first spawn, had put the male and female together with the female in a breeding net. Little guys must've been ready as ever, as when I got up she was out and they were wrapping by the afternoon.

Sooo.. fingers crossed everything goes to plan on this one!
