i posted the weekend about my sick angel. i just started euthanising him. i chose to use alchol in the water because clove oil wasn't available to me. I even contacted my local vet and he would have charged $50 to euthanise (with clove oil) but wouldn't sell clove oil to people to use at home. so he was just put in the alchol water mix and now i'll wait at least an hour and then dispose of the remains.

i have aquick question as well, if i used a net to take care of the remains how can i properly sterilize it as well as steralize the bucket?? can i put a healthy dose of melfix (sp?) in water and let it soak? by healthy i mean a few good tablespoons in a few gallons of water!

any way hopefully he will be at peace now.

some people the weekend said in my posting that it was the barbs nipping at him that caused his problems but i would like to tell you i got a professional advice from a friend of mine studing to be a vet and she said it looked like some sort of infection or something not like nipping problems. but she did tell me that he was beyond help due to the fact that the top half of his mouth was missing and he hadn't eaten for weeks. she said if i didn't euthanise he would have slowly starved to death. i didn't want him to go through the pain and suffering of that.

Sorry, melafix should be fine it's an antiseptic treatment and salt.

yeah $50 but to those who just can't bring themselves to do it i guess they will pay it.

but the dr. said he would have to charge a visit fee which is automatically $50. what i mean is even if i was just taking my dg in for a check up or a cat, hamster, gerbil etc the min cost would be $50 for the visit.

I'm sorry for your loss.

$50 seems a bit steep. I would hope that he doesn't get much business at that rate.

i just checked the bucket, he's not moving. I am now offically saying he's gone. I'll leave him in the bucket for another hour or so to make sure it's done.
