Ok Guys,

Sorry to post yet again but.........I have just looked into my Fry Tank, and I have a mixture of Guppy/Platy and Molly...ok, this is the weird bit.

None of them are interbreed AT ALL!!! But I have one BENT FRY and I mean bent lol
Not as in Homosexual for anyones records but the tail on the Guppy is just sticking up!!!

He/Her is so cute and I cannot bring myself to get rid of him/her!!!

What Should I do guys???

H3

If it is causing problems to the fish's swimming etc., you might want to end it's suffering as furryrabbit suggested. I have two guppies with bent tails (one I accidentally injured when I tried to rescue it from the big tank when I used a net). I was concerned about it and had a difficult time deciding what to do with him, but he swam and ate alright and as he grew the tail straightened out a bit. He's doing well now as is the female with the bent tail.

But it's up to you and whether the fish will be able to survive with the bent tail. :D

If you can get a picture so we can see how drastic the damage is, that might be helpful.

If it doesn't seem to be suffering leave it be for a while. The bent tail could be from how it was positioned in the mom. It may straighten itself out.

Fish like this would usually not survive in the wild due to natural selection, the body deformity would slow the fish up and so it would more likely get picked off by predators. Personally, i would euthanise it.
On the other hand, bent spine/body can indicate fish TB or NTD, both of which are lethal and untreatable, so this would also be another reason to put it down.
Mother fish infected with either of these deseases can give birth to fry also effected by them, so its just generally safer to put down deformed fry like this for the sake and health of the fish and tank in general.

In couldn't euthanise...not me sorry, It seen totally fine nothin to bad at all its still swimmin about and having a laugh ( random ) if you get me lol

these deformed fry can be casued by several things.
1. stress if you fry are being stressed by poor water conditions then they can deform up to they are almost adults. I had this once as a plant i had caused lots of water problems and the fry were ok until they started to gain their colours then bang they all deformed. i had to kill them all.

2. naturaly deformed. I was like you and let the fish grow but at the end i had to kill him as he couldnt move around the tank and the deformatie got worse as it got older.

If the fish is very severely deformed, it probably won't survive anyway. As long as you are keeping it and won't be breeding from it, it's fine to keep it - it's unlikely to actualy be suffering (pain-wise) even though its swimming may be impaired and I'd be certain that the cause is not TB (firstly TB is rare in livebearers but, more obviously, it's unlikely that you'd see it in just one single newborn fry and the fry would be dead by now if it were TB anyway).

BTW, just want to point something out - true, in the wild fish with deformities don't survive - but neither would fancy delta-tailed guppies or leopard grass guppies or fancy goldfish, fancy bettas, brightly colored gouramies, most discus (many of which can't even be bred naturaly), various hybrids (eg: parrots), chihuahua dogs, persian cats, hairless rats, fancy rabbits, show budgies, mules etc - that's not a good enough reason to euthanise.

See how it goes if it gets to a point where it's definately suffering then you should put it out of it's misery but it could turn out good so why not give it the chance.Goodluck to you and your wee bent fry

lol Bless the "wee" Bent Fry lmao :) :) :)

Thanx I will...but ur right yes if it does get to bad then ill have to do something

But until then give the little guy some love!!! He may make it thru and be the most God dam gorgeous fish you ever did see!

If the fish gets around alright and doesn't appear to suffer i userally keep them in a thier own special tank where all they have to compete with is other crippled fish, they are fun to watch. But do keep in mind that if the fish is female and it gets pregnant it userally dies.
