well today i went to my local fish store and bought a new tank its the aqua one 850!!155 litre tank.the funny thing is that i only started fish keeping bout 2months ago and i started with the aqua one 620 90litre tank i have lost alot of money upgrading a few months later (should of bought the bigger1 the 1st time lol) least i got a buyer for my old tank.my mum hehe!!

the plus side is i can get a few more fish in my new tank!!

will i cycle my new tank or use the water out my old tank and some substrate to speed the cycle up??

if theres no ilness, i dont see why not use the old water to help
Definately use some of the substrate from your other tank not much bacteria in the water and also squeeze the old filter sponge in it as well it will give you a flying start. It worked when I upgraded from a 10 gallon to a 55 g and I havnt lost any fish.

The water has virtually no ammonia and nitrite eating bacteria in it and the substrate only has some.Take some of the filter media out of your filter and add it to the new one. That should help some.

As Teelie says water holds no beneficial bacteria, the only advantage of using it is that it's up to temperature!.

Just use as much of the old media in your new tank as you can and put fish in the new tank straight after putting the old media in(max 3hours). Failure to add fish will result in the bacteria dieing off.

I know where youre coming from.Ive bought and set up 7 tanks in 10 years,I wish id just bouight my 61/2 foot in the first place!good fun along the way though :hey:

I will remember that when I pay for my own tank for the first time. I am lucky right now as my parents buy my stuff, but I still have to earn it. I am still 15, wish I was 16 though

i worked it out tonite ive had to spend another 130quid on my new tank set up so,in 3months ive spent over almost 5oo quid o dear dnt tell my olds they will hit the roof haha :/

i buy everything i want,need,etc.

eh blitz,im 14 and have 3 jobs.thats how i pay for my stuff.

hey civicr, most likely information you already know as you have been doing this for a couple of months, like to say as you are in Dundee, the store Ultimate Aquatics in Cupar, Fife is bloody superb, is owned by a marine biologist who knows her stuff and fairly cheap too, Im often there to get stuff.

Failing that, dobbies is oddly good our towards arbroath, the guy that does the main tank maintenence is actually decent - yet to see a single tank in there that is anything like some in the house of pisces.

and on top of that, keep an eye on the pet store in monifieth - has a 10% off week, last week it was aquarium supplies. though not everything is as cheap as it could be in there, but live food (bloodworms and daphnia) is 60p, cheapest around i have found.

I know what you mean about money on upgrading though, im off to get a uk 40gal 4ft tank next week. thankfully though, the tank im using right now is not mines, but my sisters that she isnt using so i never spent alot of money to start with.

Same, i just bought 52 gallon bow front with stand and 2 auqaclear 50's
a heater and a corlife 36'' 96 watts ficxture today most money i ever spent
in my lfs at one time.

cheers dave yeh i use dobbies mostly, ive been meaning to go to cuper to find that store, the 1 in monifieth is crap fish selection is poor an not always in the best of condation, think ill go to cuper for my new fish, the house of piscies has sum nice fish over stocked tanks tho!and hav to many dead fish in the tanks they cnt keep up they have that many fish

I have added my old filter into my new tank along with the new filter and took some media from the old tank and put it in the new filter.

My tank has been set-up for just over 10 days and is showing no ammonia, no nitrites and 10ppm nitrate!!

I just added my old fish to the new tank straight away and Bob's your Uncle!! 1 cloned tank!!

yup well and truely. for the place in cupar, just follow the road as soon as you come into cupar, you will notice an industrial park on your left - as you approach an entrance, there is usually a van with "ultimate aquatics" parked on the grass at the junction. turn left into it, left immediately again and you will start to notice the building with the sign, is dead easy to find.

the one in monifieth is good for its food though.

must admit though, dobbies is good, which is a shock for a chain store. I'd even say its better than house of pisces in fish care wise, though its selection is very limited.
